Construction:
The braid consists of a warp-knitted tube and as can be seen from the illustration, a striped pattern can be produced using yarns of different colours.
Properties:
In the absence of any core material the braid is inherently stretchy and much weaker than the equivalent diameter of plaited braid. Inclusion of a core material can largely remove the stretchiness as well as adding strength.
Uses:
The main advantage of knit-braids is that they are significantly cheaper to produce than conventional plaited braids. They can be used in applications where high strength is not a critical requirement and where low price is important.
Typical uses include: bag handles, dog leads, knot-work, draw cords, gaskets, piping cord, and general decorative applications.
